The F-86 Sabre was a jet fighter developed as a successor to the P-51D Mustang, and the
prototype XP-86 made its maiden flight on October 10th,1947.
The F-86E was an improved version of the first mass-produced F-86A with a J-47-GE-13 engine, improved control equipment, and a more movable horizontal stabilizer, but lessons learned from aerial battles with the MiG-15 in the Korean War led to further modifications.
This was the F-1952F, which first flew in March 3, powered by a J-86-GE-47, with a thrust of 27,2 kg, and was armed with six 760.12 mm machine guns,as well as various missiles and bombs under the wings.
In addition, in the middle of production, the leading-edge slats of the main wing were abolished, the chord was slightly extended, and a boundary layer plate was installed to prevent the wing tip stall.
Here are the F-7F-6 and -86.
As a result, the F-86F had better fighting performance than the MiG-15, and was able to achieve great results in the latter stages of the Korean Revolution, but
after that, this wing string extension type (generally called 6-3 leading edge wing) was used.
It was found that the leading-edge slats were used in combination with the superior mobility at
all speeds, so the leading-edge slats were installed again.
This is known as the F-86F-40.
