The Grumman F-14A Tomcat is the lead carrier-based fighter of the United States Navy.
The F-14 is equipped with the AWG-9 fire control system, capable of capturing targets at a distance of about 166 km and tracking up to 24 targets.
In addition, six of them are individually equipped with AIM-54 Phoenix missiles (maximum range of about 185 km), which can be used to simultaneously attack multiple targets, which is unrivaled in the simultaneous processing capability.
Another feature is the use of variable swept wings.
The variable wing changes the swept angle of the wing so that the optimal lift-drag ratio is always obtained by means of a Mach sweep program computer.
In addition, the swept angle for storage is 75°, making it easier to maneuver on the aircraft carrier deck.
The D-type is the latest model, and the engine was replaced with a General Electric F-110-GE-400 and the fire control system was replaced with an APG-71 to improve performance.
